THE SUN'S TYRANT
Every night, when the world was swallowed by darkness, creatures of shadow crept from their lairs to prey on the unwary. But each morning, before the first light tinted the sky, a single figure would stride across the eastern horizon: the Sun’s Tyrant. His name whispered terror, yet it was he who held the darkness at bay.
Clad in robes of molten gold, he carried no blade: his power was the dawn itself. As he stepped forward, his every footfall breathed light into the world. Gnarled demons and wraiths would turn and flee, their nightmares dissolving in the tender glow he spread across the land. Farmers would wake to find their fields saved from rot; lost travelers would glimpse his radiance and follow it safely home.
Still, his gift was not without peril. When clouds gathered or he lingered too long in one place, his brilliance could burn thirsty lips, parch wheat in the fields, even sear the roofs of humble huts. Mothers would caution their children: “Do not stare too long at his blazing crown,” and elders would pray for gentle dawns when the Tyrant showed mercy.
Legend says he was once a mortal scholar named Aurelion, who, witnessing a village consumed by monsters at dawn’s edge, beseeched the sky itself for a weapon against the night. The sun answered his plea: infusing him with its fiery heart. Now he walks the horizon, neither conqueror nor foe, but a guardian whose shine purges evils older than memory.
At sunrise, they call him Tyrant, and fear his scorch. But as they step from shuttered homes into warmth and security, they know that without his relentless march across the sky, their world would never see another dawn.
